1. X9 Performance Ergonomic Keyboard – Best Typing Performance
- Feel Better, Work Better: Long hours on the computer can be tough, however, we have a solution. With a user focused design,...
Specs: Full-sized 110 keyboard, USB connection, plug-and-play, integrated wrist cushion
X9 Performance Keyboard Review:
If you need a keyboard that delivers maximum throughput for both dedicated typists and people who need to work quickly, then there’s no better option than the X9.
That’s because it’s designed in such a way to harness the natural angle that our wrists prefer to be positioned in meaning it’s less likely to cause pain and can help to increase comfort when typing all day.
The layout can take a little getting used to but most fairly proficient typists should adjust to it in a day or two meaning you’ll be on the road to superior comfort and typing in no time.
The design is relatively bleak, however, it does feature a wrist rest meaning it’ll support the preferred neutral angle of your wrist joint.
Essentially, this no-frills keyboard will deliver maximum practicality rather than all the unnecessary bells and whistles that other keyboards do.
You’ll also be happy to know that the X9 is ready to go straight out of the box meaning it’ll work in a plug-and-play fashion.
Better yet, it’s an absolute steal and is one of the most budget-friendly options on our list.
Summary: Practical, superb comfort, and no-frills. Everything a dedicated typist needs.
2. Logitech Ergo K860 – High-End Professional Typing Performance
- Wireless range:10 m (33-ft) wireless range
Specs: Full-sized keyboard, quiet keys, scooped keys, USB and wireless connection, height-adjustable wrist rest
Logitech Ergo K860 Review:
If you need a keyboard that will let you type all day and for many years without failure, there’s no better option than the Logitech Ergo K860.
It’s an absolute dream to type on and that’s because it offers far more customization over your typing experience than the average keyboard.
It’s packed with features including things like a height-adjustable wrist rest to deliver the perfect wrist angle and also makes use of quiet keys for professional environments.
Logitech has even gone so far as to implement scooped keys on the K860 which means your fingertips will slide into them like butter for the perfect tactile feedback.
Similar to the X9 (our first review), the K860 is designed with a tilted keyboard layout which is great for maintaining a perfectly straight wrist when typing.
This may not seem obvious at first, but if you actually look at wrists when typing on a straight keyboard then you’ll notice they’re at a slight angle which can cause discomfort over time.
For this reason, we highly recommend giving the K860 a go if you have the finances to spare as it’ll be a night and day difference.
Conveniently, Logitech has also implemented both wired and wireless functionality on this keyboard meaning your perfect setup doesn’t have to hinge on having a cable or not.
Take note manufacturers! More customization is better, and Logitech has delivered in a superb fashion with the K860.
Summary:
The ultimate keyboard for professionals who need to type all day. Absolutely superb.
3. Kinesis Advantage2 – Specialist Comfort
- Contoured ergonomic shape proven to increase comfort and productivity: patented design features split key wells with concave...
Specs: Wired, Mechanical Cherry MX Quiet Red Keys, Contoured Ergonomic Design, Supports QWERTY and Dvorak Custom Layouts, Plug and Play
Kinesis Advantage2 Review:
The Kinesis Advantage2 is a bold weapon that any typist should be proud to have in their arsenal for long, comfortable typing sessions.
Firstly, we should state that the Kinesis Advantage2 is rather expensive compared to the other options on this list, however, it’s designed for people who usually know what they’re buying beforehand.
Basically, if your job is to professionally type all day then you’re going to want to splash out a little more on something that really does the job — hint, that’s the Advantage2.
Probably the first thing you’ll notice about the keyboard is the scooped-out contoured design where the keys are situated.
This is great because it allows you to type without having to force an unnatural angle with your wrist and instead, can let your fingers do all the work.
The Advantage2 also has enough room for your wrists to rest on the front panel which is an intentional design feature to provide you with maximum comfort.
Again, this naturally compliments the scooped-out design meaning there should be very little pressure on your wrists for you to worry about.
Aside from the fantastic ergonomic comfort, the Kinesis Advantage2 also supports custom layouts for both QWERTY and Dvorak meaning you won’t have to compromise on your typing speed if you prefer to use the more efficient Dvorak setup.
You’ll also be happy to hear that the Advantage2 also features Cherry MX Red quiet mechanical switches meaning you’ll get a rather satisfying keypress for tactile feedback but won’t end up annoying others around you in a working environment.
Lastly, this keyboard is designed to be as user-friendly as possible meaning it will work straight out of the box.
What’s not to like?
Summary: A professional typist’s dream albeit somewhat specialist and a little pricey.
4. Macally Mac Wired Keyboard – MAC OS Comfort
- Less Strain and More Support: A padded wrist cushion and kickstand is integrated in our wired ergonomic keyboard to prevent...
Specs: Wired, Full-sized, Wrist Rest, Designed for MAC
Macally Mac Keyboard Review:
Just because you’re a MAC user doesn’t mean you have to use impractical and uncomfortable computer equipment.
That’s because Macally has designed a seriously good ergonomic keyboard that costs very little.
We admit it’s a rather no-frills keyboard, similar to our first option on this list, however, it manages to do the job of keeping your wrists free from pain extremely well.
It also features the fairly typical white coloration that most MAC equipment seems to adopt which is offset by the grey wrist rest.
Speaking of which, the wrist rest is cushioned making it a great addition to keep you typing without any discomfort, especially if you prefer to have your wrists lying flat.
Other than that, it features the tilted layout on the keyboard for both the left and right hands — this makes it especially good for preventing you from rotating your wrists in an unnatural way and thus, can keep you typing all day without much issue.
It’s also a full-sized keyboard layout making it great for whatever you need to do, though, we do note the addition of some Mac-specific commands built into the keyboard layout which is advantageous for quick access to things too.
Other than that, it’s plug-and-play and should be ready to go straight out of the box.
Summary:
Simple to use, no-frills MAC keyboard that will support you typing all day. Better yet, it’s cheap as chips.
5. Cloud Nine C989M Ergonomic Mechanical Keyboard – Split Keyboard Great Wrist Angles
- Split keyboard design helps eliminate wrist and shoulder pain while you type. By keeping your hands and arms properly...
Specs: Wired, Split Keyboard Design, Full-Sized QWERTY Layout, Mechanical Cherry MX Brown Keys, Backlit RGB Keys, USB Ports, Volume Dial
Cloud Nine C989M Review:
Cloud Nine is one of the top e-sport companies in the world and they’ve managed to impress us with their very own take on what an ergonomic gaming keyboard should look like.
It comes absolutely packed with features as we would expect from any gaming-style keyboard, such as the volume dial and the backlit keys.
A quick point we’d like to make is that even though the C989M is aesthetically designed for gamers, it’s actually a really good keyboard for any typing professional due to the practical design.
It managers to offer you optimal wrist support and also features a split design to give you a more natural wrist angle depending on your preferences.
The wrist rest is cushioned whilst being large enough to give enough surface area for adequate resting space.
In fact, because it features a split design, the keyboard works really well as a gaming keypad and mouse combo when you’re not using more than the WASD side.
This is perfect for any serious FPS player who wants to game in comfort.
For typists, you’ll also be happy to know that the C989M features mechanical Cherry MX Brown switches which are usually featured in most high-end keyboards due to their versatility and tactile feedback; this also makes them good for gaming too.
Other than what we’ve mentioned so far, you’ll also find a USB port on the underside of the keyboard meaning you’ll be able to quickly connect and disconnect devices without having to go around the backside of your PC.
This also works well if you need extra ports as your laptop may not always support more than one or two USB devices being plugged in at once.
We’ve mentioned the backlighting, however, we must make a special note of the fact that the backlighting is fully customizable in terms of color and also selectable on a per-key basis.
To summarize then, what we have here is an absolute bargain of an ergonomic keyboard that supports great typing comfort but also doubles up as a fantastic gaming weapon too.
Summary: A must-have for any serious gamer who wants to game and type all day in total comfort.
6. KINESIS Gaming Freestyle Edge – Highly Customizable Ergonomic Gaming Experience
- ERGONOMIC SPLIT DESIGN FOR TYPING AND GAMING: Move the right module out of the way and bring your mouse in close for improved...
Specs: Wired, Split Keyboard Design, Lite No Numpad Design, Cherry MX Red Mechanical Switches, Full RGB per-key backlighting, Macro Support
KINESIS Gaming Freestyle Edge Review:
If you need an ergonomic gaming experience that’s extremely customizable and comfortable for both typing on and playing with, then there’s no better option than the KINESIS Freestyle Edge.
You’ll be able to type to your teammates all day as the built-in cushioning and split design makes it a breeze to get the perfect angle to keep your wrists neutral whilst being supported too.
We also love the fact that this keyboard is slightly smaller than a full-sized keyboard as it makes both sides mostly symmetrical for both your right and left hand.
A massive plus about this keyboard is that it also supports their proprietary lift kit system meaning you can use both pads at an angle.
Again, if you want a completely tailored and very comfortable experience then we really recommend getting this keyboard with the lift kit rather than without.
Aside from comfort, KINESIS has done a pretty good job of making this keyboard look pretty slick.
It features per-key RGB which means you can customize each individual key with whatever color you want.
It also uses Cherry MX Red switches which are known for their great all-around versatility for enhanced tactile feedback and mid-range actuation.
Along the top, you’ll also find hotkeys for creating macros and performing on-the-fly swaps which makes it a contender for one of the best competitive gaming keyboards on the market.
Summary: One of the best and most versatile ergonomic-focused gaming keyboards on the market.
7. KINESIS Freestyle2 – Highly Customizable Professional Working Experience
- AWARD-WINNING SPLIT DESIGN: Unlike fixed ergonomic keyboards, the Freestyle2 allows you to rotate and separate the key...
Specs: Wired, Split Keyboard Tiltable Design, Lite No Numpad Layout, Wrist Rest, Mechanical, Modular Accessories
KINESIS Freestyle2 Review:
If you don’t mind putting a bit of effort into your perfect setup then the KINESIS Freestyle2 might be the most suitable option for you.
Basically, don’t expect the perfect experience right out of the box, you’ll need to consider how you want to position it and if you want to buy the optional, but usually necessary extras such as the lifters and attachable Numpad.
If that sounds like too much hassle then we recommend going for one of our first four options on this list as they’ll provide a better plug-and-play experience.
However, if you really want to get the best possible setup then you might want to persist with trying out the Freestyle2 as it really does give you tons of possibilities for enhancing your comfort to type all day.
In fact, there’s very little you can’t do with this keyboard as it also allows for attachable modular elements such as the Numpad if you’re wanting a full-sized layout which is especially useful if you’re doing number work on your computer.
Other than the comfort and practical elements of the Freestyle2, you’ll find a fittingly bland design that is perfect for any corporate or office-based environment.
It won’t catch the eye of others and it certainly won’t distract you whilst typing — it’s a win-win.
Summary: Lots of possibilities but requires a little effort during setup to create the best experience.
Are Ergonomic Keyboards Worth It?
Yes, ergonomic keyboards are worth it because they offer more natural typing positions for your wrists and can also help to alleviate discomfort associated with repetitive physical tasks.
Basically, if you’re spending a few hours or more per day typing then we really recommend trying out an ergonomic keyboard to see if it suits your needs better.
In fact, ergonomic keyboards aren’t just built better for more natural typing, they also come with handy features that allow you to customize the angles of your typing meaning you can tailor it to your exact disposition.
Generally speaking, ergonomic keyboards are also optimized for quicker and more efficient typing which also means you’ll be able to get your work done much faster.
